Quality of 2017-2018 Coffee Crop in Brazil Impacted by Coffee Borer Beetle
CoffeeNetwork (New York) - According to local news sources, the coffee borer beetle continues to impact both yield and quality of the 2017-2018 Brazilian coffee crop.
The Center of Commercial Coffee of Minas Gerais (CCMG) has reported that production should be larger than was estimated by CONAB, but lower than initially expected. CONAB has pegged the 2017-2018 coffee crop at 45.56 million bags.
Because of a recent outbreak of the beetle, however, it is estimated that 30% of the crop has been damaged. The normal incidence of damage from the beetle ranges between 5-10% each crop year.
