Brazil’s Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) has released their first official forecast for Brazil’s 2018-2019 coffee crop. The first pegged total production at 53.2 million 60-k bags, representing an increase of 14.9% from the previous harvest.
For Arabica, production is estimated at 41.4 million bags, up 18.6% from the 2017-2018 crop. Arabica coffee production is expected to total 77.8% of total coffee production. Planted area and area to be harvested are expected to fall 10.2% and 2.2%, respectively, from the previous crop year, although the average yield is expected to increase 21.2% to 1,690 kg/hectare due to the “on-year” of this crop.
For conillon, production is pegged at 11.8 million bags, an increase of 3.8% in relation to the previous year. Although the planted area shows a retraction of 15.7%, the average yield should increase by 2.6%.
