Colombia Coffee Production Falls 6% in February, Exports Down 7% Year on Year
CoffeeNetwork (New York) – According to the latest data from the Colombian Coffee Federation (FNC), coffee production in February totaled 1.2 million bags, down 6% from the 1.3 million bags produced during February 2017.
This brought total production for the last 12 months to 13.97 million bags, down 4% from the 14.57 million bags produced in the same period last year.
Since the start of the current coffee year (October 2017-February 2018), production totaled 2.3 million bags, down 9% from the 2.6 million bags produced during the same period in the previous coffee year.
In terms of exports, the country exported 1.1 million bags in February, down 7% from the 1.2 million bags exported in February 2017.
Total exports for the last 12 months totaled 12.8 million bags, a decline of 1% from the 13 million bags exported in the same period last year.
This brought cumulative exports for the coffee year (October 2017-February 2018) to 5.6 million bags, down 11% from the 6.3 million bags exported in the same period of the previous coffee year.
Colombia Renovates 72,849 Hectares of Coffee in 2017, Productivity Increases
CoffeeNetwork (New York) – With the year 2017 at a close, the Colombian Coffee Federation (FNC) has announced that throughout the year, they removed 72,849 hectares of coffee farms (8.1% of the total area) and productivity reached 18.84 bags per hectare.
For 2018, the FNC has a goal of renovating another 90,000 hectares.
Some interesting statistics for the Colombian coffee sector in 2017:
· 83.95% of the coffee industry is technified young farms
· 13.73% is technified aged farms
· 2.31% is traditional coffee.
· 61.31% are coffee plantations at full sun exposure.
· 38.69% of coffee plantations under semi-shade or shade.
· 72,849 hectares (ha) renewed in 2017 (that is, 8.1% of the total area).
· 83,741 ha were renovated in 2016.
