IBGE Revises Down 2018-2019 Brazil Coffee Crop Estimate
CoffeeNetwork (New York) – Brazil’s Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) has revised down their 2018-2019 Brazil coffee crop estimate by 0.38% to 53.0 million bags, down from their first estimate of 53.2 million bags.
Arabica production is now pegged at 40.9 million bags, down 1.2% from their previous estimate of 41.4 million bags. Despite the increase of 1.3% in the average yield, the area to be harvested is expected to see a reduction of 2.4%. In February, Bahia adjusted its estimate for Arabica coffee production, reducing the area planted and the area to be harvested by 21.1% and 29.3%, respectively, while the average yield increased by 5.7%. Production was estimated at 1.5 million bags, down 25.2% compared to January.
For Robusta, the estimated production is 12.1 million bags, up 2.5% from the 11.8 million bags previously forecast.
