Cooxupé reduces its estimate of receipt of the 2018/19 harvest
The Coaxupé Regional Cooperative of Coffee Growers (Cooxupé) is reviewing its coffee harvest estimate for the 2018/19 crop this year. According to the commercial superintendent of the cooperative, Lúcio Araújo Dias, the forecast now is to receive 4.2 million bags of Arabica coffee from the cooperative and 1.2 million third parties. The previous forecast, in November, was to receive 4.5 million bags of cooperatives and 1.5 million non-associated producers this year.
The review is due to the expectation that the harvest will not be "all that," Dias said ahead of the opening ceremony of the Santos International Coffee Seminar. According to him, in the region of Cerrado of Minas Gerais the load of coffee trees is not as good as expected.
In addition, in southern Minas Gerais, new coffee plantations are showing low productivity because they suffered from lack of rainfall after flowering in October and November 2017. In the region of Mogiana, where Cooxupé also operates, production is good .
Although there are differences regarding the size of the Brazilian crop in 2018/19, Lúcio Dias said that Cooxupé considers that the numbers of Conab "are quite consistent" with what is seen in the crops. The state estimates a production between 54.4 million and 58.5 million bags in total, from 41.7 million to 44.6 million bags of arabica.
According to Dias, coffee stocks in the country are almost zero. Still, although the crop is "fair" in the 2018/19 cycle, it should be sufficient to meet domestic demand and Brazilian exports.
